Mike and I did a quick sunrise photo shoot yesterday morning in Sausalito. Mike found this cute little ally/beach where the view across San Francisco Bay is just amazing with the sun rising above the Bay Bridge and Alcatraz. Thanks Mike for the invite!

those are great Tim. i enjoyed shooting with you. I love the first one for the comp and color but #2 seems appropriate because i seem to recall the name alcatraz is thought to mean pelican.

Thanks Mike. It was a fun shoot and it was good to chat afterwords, great start to the day.

Jimbo - while I make fun of all that cold weather stuff, at times I wish I had such scenery like 'fresh snow,' it's just beautiful and you captured it very Anselish. Excellent. And another excellent GBH for us to admire. Wow.

RM - I was wondering where you were and the wait was once again, worth it. I like all three of them but the 'another Bonnie' is my favorite of them. Aisha is very nice as well and she has a wonderful smile. Well done.

Not for judging - Just wanted to show a small discovery I made Saturday morning while shooting sunrise with Mike. While I was very focused on getting the sunrise shots with my K5 and film cameras, I shot a few shots with the IR camera for fun. I was surprised (well actually I shouldn't have been if I'd thought about it) that the IR light from the sun showed up well ahead of the visible light. I don't have two directly comparable images that show this but when I shot this one, I could not see the obvious brightening in visible light on the horizon that is visible in IR light in this shot. Kinda cool actually.

Very strong week for you Tim. Love the sun rise shot and the last B&W works well. Cheers. JIM

Last night i tried my hand at some more light painting very close to my home. This old chevy pickup has been at the bottom of a ravine for the past 8 years or so and i used to drive past it and wonder how it came to arrive there, etc.

Very interesting! Part of the challenge with light painting is that the moving shadows can cause subjects to appear out of focus even though they're not. I don't see any of that issue in this picture!

Nice week everyone. Love the sharpness of Weed Top Mongooz and good to see you back Rosemary and those are some beautiful portraits.

Mike: Your light painting is very intriguing. You have some really nice effects in both shots, not to mention your other excellent work this week.

Tim: Of all your shots I'm liking Holey Oak, the compostition seems perfect, and it really works in IR. Thanks for the info on the IR shot of dawn as well. It does make sense, but it's interesting to see the evidence.

Leigh: Love the fisheye! I couldn't get the portraits to work for some reason.

DRN: I like the colours in your warehouse? shot. Nice shot with the vertical lines

Jimbo: Love your Fresh Snow, echoing Tim there's some Adam-esque imagery there. Leaky Pipe is a neat catch and I'll forgive you for putting Pearl Jam in my head.

Dan: Great shot to start off with and excellent candid!

More typical sunset shots from our back yard :w00t: Bitter cold out, and no clouds to create gorgeous colours in the sky, but watching these sunsets never seems to get old.

And now, for something completely different. An interesting abstract from the kitchen pointed out to me by my wife:
