Hello good artists of the still image,

It so happens that I got a free trip to New York city with the excuse of 'work' and I'm pretty excited about that. My 'duty' starts February 28th and ends March 10th, but there's where the adventure really begins because I took three weeks off work and Joined by my beloved girlfriend we're going on a road trip  :cam: :w00t:

And that's not even enough emoticons to describe my excitement :cake:

So, so far this is the plan: three days in NYC, then by plane to Phoenix where we'll rent a car, head to the almighty Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, a few other national parks relatively nearby (Zion, Bryce Canyon, I'm open to suggestions...) then to California starting from Yosemite National Park then to San Francisco, maybe Napa valley, then south to LA, maybe a day in San Diego and back home to good old here :fly:
Some places we plan to stay in hotels, some camping and some couchsurfing =)

Now here's your part, first, I know some of you guys are from San Francisco so I'd love to join a meet up in some of those amazingly picturesque places you got there, or even if it's in some boring accessible place, that's fine too.
Second, we've never been to the USA before so any information you have - I want it! :cop:
Help me plan my trip!!! :car:

Cheers, and don't worry, there will be pictures in this thread! :cross:

Well depending on weather and time, if you are in the San Francisco Bay area, I think Mike and I at a minimum could show you around a bit. Basically from Phoenix how many days would you have?

Oh, you would certainly be welcome to spend a night or two at my home if that would be an option.

We'll be leaving Phoenix on March 15th and fly back from L.A. on April 2nd so that makes it around two and a half weeks. So far our plan is to spend the next two days near the Grand Canyon and the next two in Vegas, so from March 19th to April 1st that's exactly two unplanned weeks. We had an idea of spending two or three days in San Francisco, probably between March 26-28, but really have no idea what to do there.

I don't know what's the bay area but it sounds great :-)

Now lets make this meet up happen!

Ok, I can work with those dates. I'm not sure if the weather in Bryce or Zion would be suitable for a visit in that time frame. It's a bit early. Honestly, from Las Vegas, you should consider going to Death Valley on your way to LA. It's the perfect time of year for a visit there (although it may be more familiar to you being from Israel than for me but it is a spectacular place for photography. I'll get back to you on more ideas.

Oh, I should ask a few questions though. As this is your first trip here, do you have wishes of things you want to see here in Northern California? There are, of course typical tourist things like the Golden Gate Bridge but are there other places you'd really like to see?

Thanks for your help Tim,
We have no real idea of what to do except the general outline depicted earlier.
I didn't think about the death valley, nor do I know where it is, so I will look into it now. It does sound special.

That is so cool Pablo!! You will definitely enjoy the scenery out west, and Vegas/Red Rock Canyon, Death Valley, the Grand Canyon, these are all must-sees. :)

Thanks Tiffany!
Never heard of the Red Rock Canyon before, I'll have to check that out.

So what's with the 'Sailing Stones'? is that something you bump into all over the Death Valley or is it a long shot to find?

I think you mean Playa Racetrack and the moving stones.

Like these:

This place is a long way off the normal roads and it's quite rare in the Death Valley.

Oh wow, from the photos it looks like the stones are huge

Generally I'm more into living things rather than dead ones, though it does look compelling.

I'd never heard of the "sailing stones", so good question Pablo. Tim, your photo is far superior to the ones they have on Wikipedia, you should submit yours instead! :-)

Actually I'll be in NYC for two weeks, about a week of actual work, probably less, I have two free sundays and at least another three weekdays off (not all one after the other) before my girlfriend joins me for three more days in NY, so I should plan for that too I guess.
