Thanks Jimbo for doing a great job hosting last week and we are off to another thrilling episode of TW3. The usual guidelines are here:

www.friendlyphotozone.com/forum/52-TW3/1...s-or-TW3-%28Rules%29

I will allow 9 submissions from everyone*. In his concluding comments, Jimbo reminded me that I bought a macro lens from him a couple months ago and still have not even tried it out, so I am personally going to challenge myself to use it this week for some close and macro images. I encourage all of you with an interest in macro shooting to take up the challenge and put a few up; therefore, I am allowing an extra three images for close focus/macros if you like (* 12 in total).

Here are a few weekend shots to get us rolling.

Reeds & Ripples

Hawk Hill

Happy shootin'!

Not to nit-pick, but when you say 'macro' do you mean that which is shot at a 1:1 ratio or simply close-up. I don't know if everyone has a dedicated macro lens capable of 1:1. (This is just another of my usual dumb questions. Sadly, I tend to take things far too literally.)

I have a whole book on macro / close focus photography. There is a difference between the two and it's all about how close and the ratio. Even with that, with most people what is referred to as macro photography is really just close focus photography. I'm quite sure that's what Mike meant.

Jeff, by now you know the rules of TW3 are generally fairly loose I surely wont examine all of the photos for proper 1:1 qualification, lol. Let's call it a close focus/macro theme and that should cover the bases.
:cop: Macro police off duty.

PS - i know you'll be bringing the good stuff!

This past Sunday, my wife and I went to nearby Bodega Bay to view two tall ships visiting this small seaside community this weekend. We got to tour one of them the Lady Washington (she was used in the filming of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie). Here are a few images from this visit.

The tops of the Lady Washington's main mast.

I didn't actually get any shots of the whole ship...

For a moment there I thought it was our long, lost member Gary Dorrington! :wth:

Love the shots of the rigging.
Quite the cats-cradle tangle of rope!

I knew it was a dumb question, yet still I felt the need to ask.
Thanks Mike.

@BCB - looks like a good time was had aboard the Lady Remington, err Washington. Love the rigging which reminded me of a FPZ shoot we did last year at Hyde St Pier aboard the Balclutha. Was Cap'n Jack signing autographs? he looks the part.
When my dad was in his 20's around Chicago, he was sometimes mistaken for a popular Cub ball player at the time...one thing led to another and he once signed a few balls and jerseys for some very happy little league kids...now probably less happy as they try to hawk their fraudulent keepsakes on eBay, lol. :wth: :wth:

In your cormorant shot, is that the main mast of the ship? The Lady Speed Stick?

keep 'em coming!

Nice shot of Pt. Bonita Mike. I want to see more of this when you get the right angle. Nice feeling to that shot.
