Hey everyone.. Thanks again to MikeSF for picking my photo for the winner this week.
Looking forward to maybe some fall pics in the coming week, I know the leaves are losing a lot of green saturation in my area.

Rules are here, same as always.

I haven't shot a pic since the last series, so here's one I didn't post at least to kick things off:

Look forward to a good week of pics, post early and post often. ;)
-Dan

Well, it's quiet out there...too quiet so I'll start the ball rolling with three from my September 'lines' theme series.

Wow BCB, your Lines experiment is really paying off. It's a great idea for a monthly exercise, and I may steal it in the near future.

This weekend was the annual Champlain Valley Hot Rod Nationals in Essex, VT. I saw easily over 1000 classic cars there, and that was just on the opening Friday. Apparently Saturday was expected to break some records. Luckily, I was there on a day when there's more space between cars and fewer spectators clogging the shots. All the same, I tried to be more aware of potential distractions in the shots. It's easy to make excuses for them after the fact, but it takes more patience (and gives better results) to just get the shot right in the first place. I still have work to do on that front, but I'm much happier with these overall:

Camaro In The Middle

Nice car shots, you do those quite well, as far as my lines theme goes, steal away! Love to see what you do with that.

Frank, you've been to a few car shows this summer and your shots just keep getting better each time!
I really like 'Deep Gloss'. Reminds me of my old '49. (Even if it was red.! ;) )

FP, I did a relook at your car show shots and I have to say that Camero in the Middle and Hillbilly are my favs. It's interesting that you are trying to focus on compositional fundamentals for these. They all seem to be cleaner and have far less distractions in the images, well done!

Mike, I wish I had, had the time to get out and see the flyby, but with shots like yours and Matt's I feel like I was there. Love the Coit Tower shot, it says SF all over it. Nice series of shot guy.

Thanks! It's true what they say, it takes practice to think like a photographer. In my case, it took countless car shows over 3 years to finally grasp some of the concepts. There's still more work to be done, but it feels great to finally see some improvement in my results.

Well bully for you for the improvement! One thing you might consider is carrying a small (like around 24 inches in diameter) foldable 5-in-1 reflector. I use it occasionally in car shows to bounce some light in to the side or lower parts to balance shadows. Works better than a flash typically.
