short on time, so some short impressions

BCB - those building appear to be great subjects for IR, from your first set I like 'Light and shadow' most

LM - thanks for your comments, Iv'e taken them in consideration. 'Bluebird' is just fantastic. & 'Before Night Falls, Break Through' is a great catch.
Your second set is marvelous, the cat photo is very well executed (btw, love your new avatar :w00t: ) and the little waterfall is very pleasant (and chilly lol)
and the hobos!! lol they're so cute

JIM - stellar as always, great set, liking #1 the most

DB - Thanks for your comments. how did you get those colors? 'Apocalypse Sunset' is really good, takes me back to places
nice color themed series too, I love the way you think

sf_frank - nice to see your back and hearing all is well with your son. looking forward to see photos from your trip.
your whole set is excellent IMO, really compliment each other. #1 especially is very strong and well composed but you got my number with #3, I can't say why but I love it. I think both might work in B&W

mikeSF - as I see many recycle Golden Gate Bridge photos, you really make justice with it. The B&W version is extremely appealing.
and I love your near-death-experience-photo, very intense

great submissions everyone!

@Pablo: I am interested in your water drop. got any more to share? Also like the lens flare; can you boost the brightness any to make it jump out more?
thanks for commenting,
the water drop is just my bathroom sink, I got this idea but didn't invest on execution so for now it is still an idea. one problem is my macro lens is only 50mm so it gets wet lol
I really should use it more, but I was never a macro guy

I don't know how I can make the flare jump out, I tried to darken it to eliminate the background, maybe I just have to play with it some.

DB, I was thinking that perhaps you were using a TC... which one is it? I recently sold my Kenko 2x MC4 and have an MC7 on the way. I agree it would be nice to have a dark background when clicking on the posted image to view.

You're welcome Pablo, and thanks for yours. Those colours are pretty much as they were. I'm often surprised at the colours when I first download them, but that's what you can get when you isolate just a small section of the sky at sunset. If you think about it, 500mm or so of telephoto doesn't give you a very big FOV.
If you don't have a very long lens, I think you could probably experiment yourself with a shorter focal length by just holding the tube from a toilet roll (or similar) against the lens when you take the shot.:-)

Try using 'curves' Pablo. Essentially you want to bring up the highlights, then (if this causes the dark area to become less black) push down on the shadows. You shouldn't need to do it much to make a big difference. It's even easier with 'levels' but Lightroom doesn't have it. This link will lead you to a discussion that suggests ways of emulating 'levels' in Lightroom - Levels in Lightroom
Hope it helps.:-)

FP - comes in with three strong entries! From a purely photog point of view your low angle snow scene has both good composition and an interesting angle. I like it muchly.

No comment about the (?) protester or whatever he is. (ok it's fun.)

And he finishes with the rear end of a canon (is this appropriate for this forum?). Great stuff.

Still time for more. I'll to the wrap tomorrow morning.

FP, the 1st shot is pretty cool - the low angle really makes the shot. Too bad Mr. Zeitgeist Movement doesn't have something to say in addition to his sign. Is there a message intended behind that cannon shot?

My final entry:

Tufted Titmouse

Thanks, I've used the curves before so I know what you're talking about. I will try it out.

I got some nice photos this weekend but I'm not sure I could get in time until the deadline, Sorry Tim :o

LM , I really love the bird shot. It has that lighting about it that makes it look like a water color. My vote you be that photo. Well done. JIM

I don't even know what a zeitgeist is. I looked up the definition once, but I still didn't get it. When people use that word in conversation, I go blank. The other side of that guy's sign said "Venus Project", and that's even more meaningless to me.

Well, it's in Vermont, and it's aimed at New York... you can infer whatever you want from that.

Actually, according to the sign, it was used to defend America from the colonies of Canada, in case we ever decided to invade. Didn't stop us from going down there and burning your White House to the ground, though :p

Nice south-end of a Canon Frank. For sure it ain't no Canonet! :pinch:

Crappy weather Jimbo? If I want to see anything green I have to visit a supermarket produce department; how bad can it be out there, you got stuff growing all over the place! Nice pics despite your crappy weather. :-)
