TW3 Week#35: "Waiting For Spring" Edition

See last week's results, hosted by rmtagg here: friendlyphotozone.com/forum/52-TW3/7909-...011-Hosted-by-rmtagg

I am thrilled to be hosting this week's installment of TW3 and I thank Rosemary for selecting my photo last week.

Some of you are beginning to see the first signs of spring, as evidenced by the return of chlorophyll to your areas; I expect we may even see some flowers, butterflies, birds and green landscapes beginning to filter into the submissions. For me, the return of warmer weather is always welcomed.

Review the traditional rules here: www.friendlyphotozone.com/forum/52-TW3/1...s-or-TW3-%28Rules%29

I have no recent pics to prime the pump, but speaking of warm weather, here is an archive shot of my son in the backyard doing what little boys do best (well, besides burping and fighting with his brother):

Today is 3/8, so we shall take submissions up until midnight YOUR TIME on Tuesday, March 15th.

Good luck and be safe out there!

Great start Leigh, that's the kind of photograph I like, simple but well thought of :tu:

JIM, strong start indeed, I like the whole series but #5 made me stop for an awe

here's some distractions I had walking by:

Old Bus

Utility Pole

Barbed Wire

And we are off! By the looks of it, it's a SOLID start at that!!

@Leigh - this image strikes a chord with me. Not only is it cleanly composed and very clearly tells a story, but it reminds me of a year i spent one summer taking a 5 semester hour Spanish class in the period of 8-10 weeks at The Univ of Texas at Austin. "Turbo Spanish", it was called and class met everyday during the hottest hours of the day. We were assigned to one of the historic buildings that had no air conditioning and there was but a single narrow window in the classroom which offered no breeze or relief from the sweltering Texas heat. I remember scanning the class and seeing students succumbing to the stifling heat and losing consciousness during class. We had a 15min break at the halfway point each day and I recall we would all run to the restroom, get mostly undressed and rub wet stacks of paper towels on ourselves, some students would soak their T-shirt in water and wear that back to class. Man, when i see this photo, it just makes me re-live that moment, haha. "Hace muy caliente!" :o

@Jimbo - six great photos right off the bat and I am excited you will no doubt find some excellent scenery to shoot in SLC. Of the first set, my favorite is the #2 rays of light slicing through the trees. Sun rays are a lovely thing and catching them in a photo with this kind of clarity is even lovelier! The rhythm of the strictly vertical trees is sharply cut by the diagonals, creating a visual tension that i find pleasing. Stunning!

@Pablo - You have some great shots this week, my friend! The bus is very intriguing to me; has this been converted into living quarters, or some sort of business, or storage, etc?? There is a sense that this old bus has been recycled into something far from its original purpose. I bet if I could read Hebrew, the sign on the front may answer the riddle. I hope you plan to return to this spot for further shooting! I also really like your barbed wire because I am a sucker for shallow DOF and bokeh circles. This says, "come closer, but don't touch!". well done.

keep 'em coming, everybody!

Happy Birthday to Mike, Happy Birthday to Mike, Happy Birthday dear Miiii-iiike, Happy Birthday to Mike! :cake:

This week's TW3 is off to a very competitive start... some cracking shots already!

Jimbo: your 2 shots with the sun beaming thru the trees really get me. I love this stuff.

Leigh: an impeccable image, truly worth a thousand words.

Pablo: "Old Bus" is a really cool capture. Do you know the story behind it?

My first trio for the week...

Evening Swan

Deer Ahead of the Fog

Seagull

Some of the animals were kind this past week... they allowed me to get close enough that I didn't have to do any cropping on these pics, and in fact the deer let me get so close that I had to pull back from 300mm to 135, and so the light fog really didn't obscure my capture. :-)

oh no, another one of THOSE weeks where everyone's submissions makes me wonder why I got a camera in the first place. Oh well, I won't let it discourage me.

Forget the claw, I'm trying to read his credit card number!

Great submissions by everyone. Jimbo's trees are spooky and the last shot could have been taken as a reflection off my shed window. Weird, man!
Chris's swan is spot-on for colour, contrast and ouch - someone get me a bandaid, that thing is sharp!
Since I drive buses Pablo's pic of the converted bus is a reminder that they are never really dead. After they fail to be safe enough for our roads they are either made into restaurants or sent to Central America as primary means of public transportation.

Not sure what I'll contribute this week but I've promised my wife I'll take her to the 'Canada Blooms' flower and garden show in (yuck!) Toronto next week. I'll definitely have something then!
